Okay, right now the player doesn't have any species, but this is a feature that will eventually be implemented, so what species would people like to see? Noone's game has: Aquatics Dolphin, Orca, Shark Bear Black, Brown, Polar, Panda Birds Blue Jay, Hawk, Magpie, Owl, Penguin, Raven, Robin Canids Coyote, Dog, Fox, Painted Dog, Wolf Dinosaurs Apatosaurus, Pterodactyl (yeah, not really a dinosaur, but...), Raptor, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Dragon Black, Blue, Green, Red, White Feline Cheetah, Cougar, Leopard, Lion, Tiger Others Badger, Bat, Cattle, Deer, Donkey, Ferret, Goat, Hippo, Horse, Kangaroo (Grey/Red), Mouse, Otter, Pig, Rabbit, Raccoon, Rat, Rhino, Skunk, Squirrel
Are there any on this list people feel don't really work? Are there any other species that people feel should be added?
Personally, I'm against having anthropomorphic versions of any animals which are in the game as regular animals.

I think all the species from the list work pretty well (I mean, nearly everyone has an OC of those species or wants to read about that species growing fatter) Perhaps we could add gold dragons to the list? And what about elephants? And boars I know their technically pigs, but they have fur and pigs don't)? Snakes?
And most importantly, what about a custom species option? Will that be added?

Custom species could work depending on how modular our description system is.

It would be a fair bit of extra work both for the build team, and also the players (there'd have to be a dozen or more boxes to tick), which I suspect would put many off. Maybe a nice addition to the full version, but not something that's necessary for the demo.

Maybe a nice addition to the full version, but not something that's necessary for the demo. The way we are going with it, however, leveling = character customization, so it might be possible to make quite a unique character as you level. Now, nothing that specific is in the works currently, we are currently only thinking on adding species to the perk system so that your description can accurately describe your character's species(not even all species, just the major groups of similar animals). We also want to add other stuff like taurs and wings and stuff like that. Theoretically, if we take the system much further you might be able to change very little things like that. But that said, we don't know if that would be favorable to gameplay yet. If more people show interest it might make more of an incentive for us to work on it.

Custom species could work depending on how modular our description system is. It would be cool to play as unconventional races like Nagas (that have no legs) or avians (that can fly depending on their strength and fat levels) but it'd be hard to implement. In a game like Corruption of Champions being a Naga just changes the description a little, adds a perk, and triggers certain flags that affect the way NPCs interact with you. In a game like Noone's RPG being a Naga is impossible as it throws pretty much everything out the window. It would require a ridiculous amount of programming in that game as the character wouldn't adhere to the body based stats, since their legs and their belly are pretty much the same thing. I definitely don't expect to play as a Taur or a Naga in this game. That said playing as bipedal furries has a universal solution to it. Head, torso, arms, legs, tail*. It's the same principle as Noone's custom race feature. *Tail is not necessary for races that don't have them

Could we get humans as playable characters?

Could we get humans as playable characters? No. Humans and other similar species, real or not, are not gonna be in this game. Please see the forum Rules and Guidelines.

Whoops, got a little excited and overlooked half the rules, thanks for the heads up.

Yea, i definitely think custom species should be in it since, if you get someone like myself play'n, you don't have much in the way of "real" anthro animal characters XD.

I haven't really put any thought/work into the actual playable character yet. I've been preoccupied with getting stuff to work under the hood. Of course there are plenty of things that "should" be in the game, but as the developer, it's more a question of feasibility. While we're considering custom species, note that there's likely gonna be a very conservative limit on customization. There's simply no way to please everyone, so the best option would be to just cover the basics for now. You will be very hard pressed to see anything that deviates much from a typical furry character. The same goes for fur patterns and markings. Do not expect to see descriptions of fur beyond basic region coloring, if at all. These details are best left up to the player's own imagination rather than trying and failing to deliver exactly what everyone is looking for, only to disappoint them with the fact that they can't get their character described exactly as their fursona.

In order to have a custom race you would need to basically turn everything into mad libs, which is what Noone did. However in his game races were interchangeable so the dialog was written around that concept. Corruption of Champions did the same thing but actually had NPCs react in different ways depending on your appearance. However CoC was transformation based, items would change individual body parts and allowed for things like wings, naga tails, spider thoraxes. Translating that to a game like BoG would be difficult since the game isn't TF based (even if it might have TF elements) so that means Kazan would have to hammer out individual coding for I don't even know how many races that may have a distinct biology. Having a custom race option throws it out the window since there's no way in hell you can have so many different races with various unique biologies and keep it simple enough to allow for a generic mad lib style system.
It's a paradox. A paradox that means that not everyone's fursona can be translated into this game. If I had a naga fursona I'd have to deal with the fact most text adventure games wouldn't allow me to make the character a perfect representation.

Character customisation is a lot of tick boxes and text entry, and a reasonable amount of time would be taken with this, which most people wouldn't want to spend. How much work do you really want to spend accommodating a small group potential players who will ever want to use it, and will only use it every now and then?

I already know conceptually how Noone did it in his game. iirc, there were only basic genus descriptions for canids, felines, etc., and that's about as far I plan on going.
