So, it's already been established that the player, by default, owns a house.
But what about customization?
So here, today, I would like to propose, The Shop Shop.
Now, what is The Shop Shop, you ask?
The answer, is one of the rare shops in this world that doesn't sell (normally) consumable items, or weapons of war!
The Shop Shop is basically a Real Estate agency, combined with a furniture store, where the player can sell, upgrade and model their house, as well as purchase furnishings.
Let's be honest now, will the players default furniture Really continue to hold them up throughout the game without breaking? I don't think so.
I personally find it hilarious how in noone's own Fatty Text Adventure game, you could cheat yourself to a million pounds, go to your room, sleep, and the bed only "creaks under your weight."
We'll did l fix that problem, and provide a realistic solution.
Cue inspirational music, because it's time to add a never-before-seen level of realism ina game like this!
did i did gud momy

So a bit like the Secret Bases in Pokemon? Well it's a nice idea, but back in the medieval period you lived outside for the most part, houses were for eating and sleeping in, and working too if you had the right job (say a jewellery-maker or a tailor), but before TVs, radios, street-lights etc, people generally lived outside. This would severely limit the amount of furniture you could expect to buy, oh chairs, tables and beds, plus some actual stuff to go in there, like plates, utensils and clothing, but that's it really.
Also, the game is, at this point, rather lacking in visuals, so this is going to mean a lot more work on the descriptions.

I didn't really mean like pokemon Secret Bases, but that's actually a good idea. You could purchase tiles and build your own Shop, house, or otherwise. If you purchased a tile and built a shop, that would be a good source of income for the player.

So maybe we should bring a bit of progress to this thread. I suggest we make a brainstorm on the following points:
--What properties could be purchaseable? We don't have to limit ourselves to shops and homes here.here's a few suggestions: -A shop -A home -A restourant -A tailor -A smith -A bathhouse ...
--How can we expand this aspect of the game? Simply buying stuff is boring. A few suggestions: -You could complete quests to buy/expand certain properties -Maybe you'd have to supply shops/ restourants with items and possibly also crew
--Another this to consider is the quests related to these properties. I imagine that most properties would involve some kind of quest to even be purchaseable. A few ideas are: -A quest in which you have to beat the owner in an eating contest (restourant??) -A quest in which you have rebuild and restore a place to its former glory Etc, you can go wild here. The limits are your own imagination.

I also forgot to mention restaurants, as I was thinking of then as classifying as shops, so thanks for pointing that out. Might be on an actual computer later today, so if I am, let's have a real brainstorming session in the IRC.

Of course, since the theoretical mission is to find and destroy the source of the influence (of fail and be fattened beyond immobility), might this not be a distraction?

Ooh, all of this sounds nice.
But it'll only be nice if it actually works.

Also, will probably be on the IRC tomorrow around 6:00 or 7:00 PM EST if anyone's interested in brainstorming.
I hope to go over the general aesthetic (description) of the shop, character creation of the furs working there, and maybe tile placement and quest writing.
Also, does anyone remember what sight the IRC was on, and the channel for BoG? I can't manage to find it..

Sorry for popping in so late. The site is webchat.quakenet.org/ and the channel is BaneOfGluttony This is a huge system with a lot of moving parts. If you can figure out how to get something like this to work satisfactorily in a text game without any additional visuals, be my guest. I just think it will be a difficult task.

In practice they'll just be large quests that grant income over time when fully/partially completed, and maybe some different visuals for that specific tile (this i believe to be a long term thing though).
