Hello Peeps,
I am pleased to announce our first assignment for building the world of Bane of Gluttony. And in it we will be doing just that, worldbuilding!
The first step to building a world of adventure is actually shaping it to fit the adventurers. We already have a few guidelines on how that world came to be and how it works internaly. But first, rough map!
Draft of the map with notes
This is really rough and preliminary, and we expect a lot to change, but it serves to display a few things that we already had in mind. First, the biomes. We plan on including mountains, a forest, a desert, a beach, and an island, like certain other games. We will also have an intermediary zones, like a savanna in between the main area and the desert and rolling hills going up to the mountains. Besides all that, we also have a swamp biome at the far south of the forest.
Each main area(Plain, Desert, Mountain,Forest and Island) also has it's own town with it's own peculiar inhabitants and is afflicted by one specific kind of expansion, keeping with its main themes.
Other than the last city we also need your help in fleshing out the world with interesting people and culture. We will be talking about background lore, religion, and the hidden places forgotten in the world.
If you are interested in joining us, please use this doodle to fill your schedule. The final date will be announced next Saturday(August 22nd), and the meeting itself will take place in the #BaneOfGluttony IRC chat at QuakeNet.
Hope to see you there!
Edit - Kazan: Linked old draft of map with notes and a few reference images for biomes.

Each main area(Plain, Desert, Mountain,Forest and Island) also has it's own town with it's own peculiar inhabitants and is afflicted by one specific kind of expansion, keeping with its main themes.
- The desert area was afflicted by the most peculiar hunger. With food scarce, the citizens of its town turned to the only readily available food, themselves. The distrust and fear that soon followed the rampant voring of the citizens instituted a state of anarchy in the whole town, which now seems on the border of collapse. Expect lots of wild west aesthetic and themes around here.
- The islanders, always easygoing and generally unoccupied maintained that disposition throughout their transformation. Affected by a strange species of plant that suddenly started growing in their lands, their regular aloofness is only multiplied as they inflate uncontrollably. Though unconditionally, this cultural characteristic is going to be their downfall as they party hard and watch their populace float towards the sky, if they even make it that far.
- In the forest lay a forgotten city. Long ago divided from the rest of the world by the woods' twisting paths. In this city, a monarch is overcome by greed and sloth, becoming an example of slob for the entire population. Becoming increasingly lost in its own indulgence, the dark corners of the forest will become their graves.
- The main city has only recently beem affected by the curse, and as the weight of its populace steadily climbs, most swear nothing out of the ordinary is taking place. As they persist in their insistent denial and gluttony, are they too soon join their neighbors as the ravenous hunger takes them?
- The last city, the one that lies in the mountains is still up to debate, and we want you to help choose what it becomes! It is tentatively planned for macro, but that poses significant design challenges.
Other than the last city we also need your help in fleshing out the world with interesting people and culture. We will be talking about background lore, religion, and the hidden places forgotten in the world.
